1. Who I am

The Damp Guy is an information website about damp in homes, run from the United Kingdom. It is operated by That Guy, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom, which is the data controller for the personal data collected through this website (www.thedampguy.co.uk).

2. What I collect

When you submit the contact form, I may collect:

• Your name and email address
• Anything else you type into the form

Automatically when you visit this site:

• Your IP address. My host needs it to send you the page, and my analytics uses it to count the visit and then throws it away without storing it
• Your browser and device type
• Pages you look at, what you click, how long you spend, where you came from

3. What I do with it

UK GDPR requires me to tell you my "lawful basis" for using your data:

• To reply to your message. Basis: legitimate interest.
• To improve this site and understand what readers find useful. Basis: legitimate interest. You can tell me to stop at any time.
• To meet my legal obligations. Basis: legal obligation.

I do not sell your data.

4. Who I share it with

I use trusted third parties to run the business. They handle some of your data on my behalf, under written agreements. The main ones:

• Netlify hosts this site and handles the contact form
• PostHog measures how the site is used, without cookies

I only share what they need to do the job. I may also share data if the law requires it, or to defend a legal claim.

5. Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies. Not for analytics, not for advertising, not for anything else, and nothing is written to your browser's storage either.

I do measure how the site is used, through PostHog, but it runs in a mode that stores nothing on your device and keeps no identifier for you beyond the day you visit. There is nothing stored to consent to, so you are not asked. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded at all. If any of this ever changes, this section changes with it and a consent banner appears before anything is set.

6. Where your data goes

Some of the providers above are based outside the UK, so your data may leave the UK. This site's analytics are held by PostHog on servers in the European Union. When a transfer happens, it uses safeguards the UK government accepts: the UK's data transfer agreement, the EU's standard contractual clauses, or an "adequacy" decision.

7. How long I keep it

• Contact-form messages: while still useful, then deleted. Sooner if you ask.
• Website analytics: kept for as long as this site runs, so I can compare one year against another. The records are anonymous: nothing in them identifies you, and the identifier that groups a single visit together is thrown away within the day.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask me to:

• Show you what I hold about you
• Fix anything that is wrong
• Delete it, where I am not legally required to keep it
• Stop or limit how I use it
• Hand it over in a portable file
• Withdraw consent, where consent was the basis

9. Keeping your data safe

I protect your data with HTTPS encryption, password-protected accounts and trusted suppliers. No system online is 100% safe, but I take security seriously.

I may update this policy from time to time. The date below shows the latest version.
